Syllabus quiz
Students often do not read the syllabus, so on day 1, I have them do a syllabus quiz, to make them read it, discuss it, and become aware of important policies. I have here the first version from my early days as an EFL teacher (and thus, rather simplistic and lacking in substance), and a more recent one. I have them discuss this in groups and fill it out. I usually do not grade it, but after the group discussion, I go over it with the whole class.
